"New York 18/10/07: Over 38.8 million people, in 110 countries have broken the Guinness World Record – set last year at 23.5 million - for the largest number of people to “STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY” in 24 hours.
For 24 hours from 9pm GMT on the 16th of October people around the world from all walks of life came together in their schools, streets, market places, in front of government buildings and local councils, in workplaces and houses of worship, at sports and cultural events and at public landmarks to demonstrate their frustration that we still live in a world where 50,000 people die daily from preventable causes. The mass mobilization provided a platform for global civil society seeking more active involvement in the current aid architecture debate, debt cancellation processes, trade negotiations and public accountability monitoring. The largest numbers of people who took part in this mobilization came from developing countries."

Early morning led us to Scoala Centrala, at half break, where, technically supported by an amplifier and a powerful station we "tamed" some 385 students-from 1st graders to the an incisive, yet cute African high schooler... Properly briefed on the event beforehand, all children embraced the cause with might and main, hollering the slogan of the campaign perfectly synchronized.
One cab fair later, we gathered masses in the gym at Jean Monet. An entire-and "just arrived"- collection of Converse was standing up against poverty. A 645 A list speaking out.
During the following break, we took on I.L.Caragiale high school and rounded up another 658 participants on the football court. One tell-tale later, laughters and hands-spread.
We return to Scoala Centrala in the early afternoon- some more 300 students joining and fairly enjoying our activity. Contre plongees from quaint balconies and name gathering.
a total of 1963 participants on our side.
Further, a highlight and a thank-you parade to mom:
So keen on the event, she wrap-advertised the "Stand Up" and practiced some jumping of her own with half of Cr.
Plus similar activities held in Cluj, Sibiu CCE07 and Galati.
Here's to braking records!
and,amidst, to supporting Mdgs!
